SAN MARTINO IN RIO
San Martino in Rio is not a well-known place, lying placidly in the rich plains of Emilia in the province of Reggio Emilia.
It can be reached by taking the highway to the Brenner Pass at Modena Nord, and then exiting at Campogalliano.
After a few kilometres you will be surrounded by a classical landscape of rural tranquillity, and you will arrive in San Martino in Rio fully convinced that there is not much to see.
However, you discover, in the space of a quarter of an hour, that in San Martino in Rio, in addition to the Automobile Museum, there are Museums of agriculture and the rural world, the Gualdi Enghel Archive dedicated to the famous composer and clarinettist who was in born San Martino in Rio, and the collection of the Pinacoteca Coppelli.
Apart from the Automobile Museum, all the museums are housed in the beautiful Rocca Estense castle, beautifully restored to its former glory.
The Automobile Museum was born in 1956, when cars considered vintage today had not even been designed. Yet after more than 50 years it continues to be a destination for all enthusiasts.
